11 Harry Potter spin-off series we want to see (or not)
13. The Newspaper Club
Because the Harry Potter books are told solely from Harry’s point of view and he is completely oblivious, we miss out on a lot of the action that’s happening at Hogwarts. Wouldn’t it be great to catch up on all the teen drama of the 1991-96 school years, told from the pen of gossipers extraordinaire Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown?
Imagine Parvati and Lavander being part of Hogwarts’ school newspaper and running the gossip column. The entire show — a sitcom, surely — would revolve around the two best friends as they gather up material for their next issue. We would hear whispers of the big events surrounding Harry, but Parvati and Lavander would focus on other subjects. For example, Ravenclaw might have won the match against Slytherin, but that is only because Slytherin’s star Chaser was heartbroken. Fred and George might have set fire to the Charms classroom, but that was only so they could ask out Angelina and Katie. Did you know how many points were just docked from Hufflepuff for that stunt Ernie Macmillan pulled?
Even as the walls of Hogwarts sometimes threaten to crumble around them, Parvati and Lavender are dedicated to their writing career and never miss a pitch meeting.
What do you think about these ideas? Do any of them appeal to you? Do you have other eras that you’d like to see onscreen, or other characters you’d like to see further explored?
