25 greatest duos in Game of Thrones history
From Arya and the Hound to Jon Snow and Sam, Game of Thrones had some terrific duos, even if most of them didn’t get happy endings. Here are 25 of the best.
Over the course of eight seasons of Game of Thrones, we had some excellent duos. Some of them would go on until the very end. Others would, well…they’d end in some way or another.
Most of the duos came from a need. One character may have abducted another as a way to gain safety outside of King’s Landing. Others found their end goals aligned all the way to the end of the series.
It’s certainly hard to figure out the best of all the duos that have ever happened on the series. Do we include potentially awesome ones that never really got much time, like Daenerys and Yara, or leave something like that honorable mentions? In fact, there’s one honorable mention I want to point out before we get into it: King Joffrey Baratheon and his crossbow. How about Olenna Tyrell and her poison? I keep these pairings to human-human or human-animal, but let’s have a moment of respect for people’s relationship with their stuff.
Okay, let’s dive into the top 25 duos from all eight seasons of Game of Thrones.
25. Bronn and Tyrion Lannister
What happened to the duo: The duo broke up. Cersei Lannister made a deal with Bronn when Tyrion was imprisoned for the murder of Joffrey to keep him from fighting for Tyrion in a trial by combat against the Mountain. Bronn felt bad about this betrayal, but not bad enough to turn down a wealthy marriage and the promise of a castle. It took a while to get that castle, though!
Why they were so great: The two ended up becoming an excellent duo in the early seasons of the series. They really came together when Bronn volunteered to fight for Tyrion when he was on trial at the Eyrie basically for the crime of being a Lannister. Bronn figured that there could be money in helping this rich kid, and he was right.
The two ended up striking up a friendship after Bronn defeated Vardis Egen. The two would drink together, and we’d get plenty of banter from them throughout the series. It was certainly fun while it lasted.
