Attack on Titan’s final season will continue in 2022
Attack on Titan has finished the first part of its final season. Part 2 is coming, but we’ll be waiting a long while to see it. At least there’s a teaser.
Attack on Titan has been working its way through its final season with care, making sure to stick to all the major beats of Hajime Isayama’s manga, even if that means balancing the anime’s action and suspense with slower, plot-building moments. And it looks like the series will see its source material through to the end, as Studio MAPPA has announced that the anime’s fourth and final season will continue with new episodes arriving in winter 2022.
The news came after the first half of Attack on Titan‘s final season ended this Sunday with “Above and Below,” leading into the manga’s final arc, which hasn’t concluded just yet. With one chapter to go before Attack on Titan fans bid the manga farewell, it’s no wonder the final part of this story won’t be animated for such a long time.
Luckily, in the tweet announcing the news, Studio MAPPA shared a brief teaser for the final season’s second installment, which promises a return to the past by showing fans Ymir Fritz, the first Eldian to become a Titan, as well as flashbacks to the anime’s earlier seasons. Watch it below:
Of course, since the final arc has presumably yet to be animated — and to avoid spoilers — the teaser doesn’t reveal too much about what fans can expect going forward. It does, however, tell us the name of the 76th episode, which will kick off the second part of the final season: “Judgement.”
After this week’s finale promised another confrontation between Paradis Island and Marley, fans can bet on another showdown between Eren and Reiner — along with the last half of the season addressing the tensions between the anime’s main character and his former comrades. It’ll be a long wait to see how things pan out, but knowing Attack on Titan, it will be worth it.
