Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) will NOT be in Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi show

The other day, Disney revealed the full cast for its upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off show, and it’s pretty impressive. Ewan McGregor returns as Obi-Wan! Hayden Christensen returns as Darth Vader! Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse return as Owen and Beru Lars, Luke Skywalker’s adoptive parents. It’s a Star Wars nostalgia jamboree!

Unfortunately, some earlier rumors didn’t come to pass. A while back, Making Star Wars editor Jason Ward, who has a pretty good reputation when it comes to rumors, reported that Jar Jar Binks would show up in the upcoming series, and that he’d be sporting a beard, no less. Jar Jar, the talkative Gungan introduced in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, has his share of detractors, but also some fans, and even the people who hate him might be okay with a fun cameo where he catches up with his old pal Obi-Wan.

But it doesn’t look like it’s happening. Ahmed Best, the actor who played Jar Jar in the prequel trilogy and went on to host the game show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge, revealed on social media that he won’t be in the new series:

We’ll note that just because Ahmed Best isn’t the Obi-Wan Kenobi show doesn’t necessarily mean that Jar Jar isn’t in it; they can do wonders with CGI these days, although that would be a dick move to cut Best out of the process. We doubt he’ll show up.

What does the Obi-Wan Kenobi show premiere on Disney+?

As for when you can watch Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s no firm release date as yet. The next shows on the Star Wars agenda are The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season 3, both of which are due out in December of this year. With production on Obi-Wan Kenobi moving ahead, it should follow those shows. We’d expect it sometime in early 2022.

Next. Star Wars: There’s a Mandalorian crossover in The Bad Batch trailer. dark
