The Witcher season 2 has wrapped production

It’s hard to believe that the first season of Netflix’s fantasy hit The Witcher came out all the way back in 2019. Production on the show’s second season has been ongoing, though it’s hit a few snags because of the pandemic (and some other issues on set). But for fans wondering when The Witcher season 2 might finally arrive, we have some good news: The show has reportedly wrapped production on its second batch of episodes.

Per TechRadar, hair and makeup artist Jacqueline Rathore revealed that production had finished on an Instagram Story yesterday. The post has since vanished, as Instagram Stories do, but the news lines up with fansite Redanian Intelligence’s recent report that the series was heading into its final week of filming. According to the site, Freya Allen, who plays Ciri on the show, wrote as much in an Instagram story of her own.

Redanian Intelligence also captured Rathore’s Instagram posts, which you can check out below:

Several of the show’s stars, including Paul Bullion (Lambert), Joel Adrian (Hemrik) and Freya Allan herself, previously posted to social media about wrapping work on the season as well. And while it’s natural that some stars will be filming longer than others, it does suggest that The Witcher has been getting closer and closer to post-production.

UPDATE: And this post should remove any and all doubt:

When will The Witcher season 2 come to Netflix?

Now that production is seemingly over and done with, the next big question is: When will The Witcher season 2 finally arrive on Netflix?

There’s no official release date for the new episodes just yet, but with the show entering post-production, it seems possible the new season could hit the streamer later this year. The first season of the series had a late December release date, so it’s possible that season 2 will follow suit. (It’d certainly make a good holiday gift, anyway.)

If that timeline is accurate, it also means fans could see a teaser or trailer sometime this summer or fall.

In the meantime, we’ll be left to speculate about the fates of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri after last season’s big finish. Now that Geralt and Ciri have finally crossed paths, the series is likely to shift its focus to the younger girl and her powers. Hopefully, fans won’t need to wait too long to see how that turns out.
