Emilia Clarke is best known as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, but she’s taken on a wide variety of roles outside of that, from Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story to the lead in the rom-com Me Before You. Now, we’re about to see her take on something she never has before: a Southern accent.

Clarke stars in the upcoming true-crime thriller Above Suspicion, where she goes from the high skies of Westeros to a small rural town in Kentucky. Clarke’s character, Susan Smith, becomes involved an FBI agent when he comes to town, and things spiral out from there. Check out the trailer:

Although the film wrapped production back in 2017, it’s only now getting a U.S. release. The movie is coming out on May 14 in select theaters and on digital. It’ll be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on May 18.

Who does Emilia Clarke play in Above Suspicion?

The movie is based on true events, and Clarke’s character is at the heart of it. Susan Smith is eager to escape her small-town life in Kentucky filled with drugs and crime, so when rookie FBI agent Mark Putnam (Jack Huston) recruits Susan to be an informant in a high-profile case, she jumps at the chance.

The two start having an affair, which leads them both down a very dangerous path. I’m telling you guys, this is Emilia Clarke like we’ve never seen before.

Alongside Clarke and Huston, Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), Chris Mulkey (Captain Phillips), Kevin Dunn (Warrior) and others also star. Above Suspicion is directed by Philip Noyce (SaltClear and Present Danger).

It may have taken a few years to get to the States, but I think many fans will be excited to see Clarke stretch her abilities in a new way.

Next. The Umbrella Academy season 3 has “a long way to go, but it’s good”. dark
