Fandom Madness 2021, Championship Round: Gandalf vs Daenerys Targaryen

The championship round of our Fandom Madness tournament is here. Sixty-four characters entered. Two remain. It’s The Lord of the Rings vs Game of Thrones.

At long last, we have reached the end of our Fandom Madness journey. After five rounds of 64 sci-fi and fantasy icons battling each other, we have arrived at our final two characters: Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones and Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings.

Before you vote, please remember to keep things civil and fun. Our silly tournament has always been about bringing fandoms together, not pushing each other further into our camps. Debate is always welcome, but keep it respectful and listen to others; you might just end up discovering a new fandom to embrace. We like nothing better than to see fans pick up something new!

Back to the bracket, Gandalf’s run comes as a bit of a surprise. He took out heavy favorites like Han Solo and Wanda Maximoff, but given how beloved The Lord of the Rings has been for decades, perhaps underestimating Gandalf was a mistake.

Likewise, it was a little surprising to see Daenerys Targaryen go so far given the mixed reception to the end of her arc on Game of Thrones, but again, it doesn’t pay to underestimate an icon.

Who will emerge as the victor is anyone’s guess. Voting lasts until tomorrow, Wednesday April 6 at 10:00 p.m. EST. Now check out our last bracket of the year!
