The Walking Dead final season premiere date revealed in new teaser
By Ashley Hurst
It still feels strange to say The Walking Dead is finally reaching a conclusion with season 11, but it’s happening. Season 10 ended just last night on a high note with “Here’s Negan,” a stellar origin story for the villain. Not wanting to let fans wait, the show quickly dropped a cryptic teaser for the eleventh fan final season:
First and foremost: The final season of The Walking Dead drops Sunday, August 22, 2021 on AMC! Interestingly, this comes slightly earlier than other season premieres, which generally landed in October. However, since we’re getting 24 episodes rather than the usual 16, the earlier date make more sense.
In season 11, our survivors will properly meet the Commonwealth. We’ve seen glimpses of this civilization and how brutal they can be in episodes such as “Splinter,” but we haven’t really had a formal introduction. Going by the latest teaser, they already look more hostile than they did in the comics.
In the teaser, we hear the dour voice of a Commonwealth soldier questioning Eugene (Josh McDermitt). He asks all the typical questions you would expect, although some of them seem somewhat random. “Have you ever been vaccinated for the Measles?” he asks. “What did your parents do for a living?” It’s all way too personal. In “Splinter,” we saw them question Princess (Paola Lázaro) in a similar way.
Throughout the teaser, we get some cryptic clips of strange places. We see everything from a courthouse to a subway station to an ice cream stand. None of these appear to be references to anything in particular, except for the image of a cake which comic readers will find familiar.
What will happen in the final season of The Walking Dead?
In the comics, Michonne finds her long-lost daughter Elodie in the Commonwealth. Elodie works in a bakery, hence the clip of the cake. Unfortunately, Michonne is not in the show anymore, so the final season might introduce someone else in the same way? A few theories suggest Daryl could reunite with Leah (Lynn Collins), who he met earlier in the season, in the Commonwealth. Also, a few weeks back, we got confirmation Limitless and Avengers: Infinity War veteran Michael James Shaw will play the fan favorite character of Mercer.
As well as a short teaser, the official Walking Dead Twitter account shared the first picture from the next season. It features Daryl in a sewer… and that’s about it:
The second half of Fear the Walking Dead season 6 is coming
Alongside the final season of The Walking Dead, our sights are fixed on the second half of Fear the Walking Dead season 6. While the midseason premiere is currently available for AMC+ subscribers, for those of us stuck waiting, the network showed off some new clips in a teaser. The battle against Virginia appears to be in full flow:
The Walking Dead might be drawing to a close, but things are far from over. The franchise will continue with a slate of spinoffs, including a first foray onto the big screen.
Don’t miss the final season premiere on Sunday, August 22!
