Behold the champion of Fandom Madness 2021: Daenerys Targaryen

We started this year’s Fandom Madness tournament with 64 characters from sci-fi and fantasy. After several rounds of voting, one champion has emerged!
After many weeks and thousands of votes, you have officially chosen a champion in our 2021 Fandom Madness tournament: Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones!
Given that Game of Thrones is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, it’s fitting that perhaps its most iconic character emerged victorious, but Daenerys’ win was anything but assured, as she faced strong competition from every corner of science-fi and fantasy. Before making the finals, Dany took down the MCU’s Black Panther and Outlander’s Jamie Fraser. Things got really tough for the Mother of Dragons In the Elite Eight when Dany faced off against last year’s champion, Moiraine Damodred from The Wheel of Time, followed by a match-up with Mulder and Scully from The X-Files, who were the surprise successes of this tournament.

Indeed, Mulder and Scully may have had the best performance of the tournament considering that they started as a lowly 16 seed (they didn’t make it out of the first round last year). The original ship somehow managed to best popular characters like Wonder Woman and Spider-Man, as well as least year’s tournament darling Lucifer, the namesake of the Netflix drama. Who will give us a surprise run next year is anyone’s guess, but it’s often the best part of the tournament.
Ultimately, we hope everyone had a good time with our silly tournament, and maybe even got exposed to some new TV shows, movies, books and fandoms to check out. We thank everyone for participating, and look forward to next year. Cheers and congratulations to Daenerys Targaryen!
