Fear the Walking Dead won’t crossover with final Walking Dead season
By Ashley Hurst
Fans have already witnessed The Walking Dead spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, cross over with the mother show on two major occasions in the past. Despite both crossover attempts turning out pretty well, the showrunner has confirmed there are “no plans” to do anything further, at least not at the moment.
Crossovers: Fear the Walking Dead recap
Walking Dead crossovers have been popular among fans. First we saw Morgan (Lennie James) switch from the original show to the spin-off in 2018, to great success. He’s now a major character and a leader among our group of survivors. Next was Dwight (Austin Amelio), who joined Fear the Walking Dead in season 6 along with Sherry (Christine Evangelista). Other Walking Dead characters have shown up on the spin-off too, including Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), but only for cameo appearances.
Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing the second half of its sixth season, and the cast is already assembled and filming the seventh, which is due to premiere later this year. Meanwhile, The Walking Dead will premiere its 24-episode eleventh and final season on August 11. This presents the final opportunity to do one last crossover before the main show draws to a conclusion. However, it doesn’t look likely that will happen.
“Right now, we don’t have any plans for another crossover in the works, but, you know, we’re at the beginning of the season,” showrunner Andrew Chambliss recently told Insider. “So, who knows?” Perhaps we shouldn’t give up all hope just yet.
Future Walking Dead crossovers we want to see
A further crossover seems like the obvious choice to tie up loose ends between our characters. It would definitely be interesting to see Dwight cross paths with Negan (Jeffrey Dead Morgan) again. Both characters have changed a lot in recent episodes. Another obvious move would be reuniting Morgan with Rick. Since Rick is no longer a part of The Walking Dead, maybe we’ll have to wait until the upcoming “Rick Grimes” movies.
The good thing about AMC developing a slate of Walking Dead spin-offs is the endless possibilities for crossovers. They already have The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and World Beyond. In the coming years, we’re getting a show following Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) as well as an anthology show called Tales of The Walking Dead. And, of course, those mysterious movies.
Fear the Walking Dead season 6B kicked off last week with a shocker of a midseason premiere. If you missed it, you can catch up on AMC+. New episodes air Sundays on AMC!
