Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s son Gus is following in his father’s footsteps and will appear on The Walking Dead for the show’s eleventh and final season. Per NME, Morgan revealed the big news during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The Walking Dead’s season 10 finale, “Here’s Negan,” was an exploration of The Walking Dead villain’s life before the zombie apocalypse. The story is based on a bestselling comic book of the same name, and Morgan’s real-life wife Hilarie Burton Morgan appeared in the episode as Negan’s wife Lucille. Lucille, who was battling cancer when the apocalypse began, eventually becomes the inspiration for the barbed wire baseball bat that Negan uses to terrorize people later in the timeline.

The Walking Dead becomes a family affair for Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan)

Now that Mr. and Mrs. Morgan have appeared together on the show, it only seems right that their 11-year-old son will join in the fun. “Gus Morgan, my 11-year-old son, is going to be the featured walker in Episode 5,” the elder Morgan told Corden. “He’s been getting his COVID test so he can be on set and all that. He is so pumped it’s ridiculous.”

Gus has always been a fan of his father’s work on The Walking Dead, even sporting a miniature version of Negan’s leather jacket in family photos over the years. The Morgans lived on set when they shot “Here’s Negan” and Hilarie Burton Morgan shared a heartwarming video of Morgan and Gus playing ball on the same street where Negan gutted a man in season 7.

Despite his son’t enthusiasm, Morgan notes that the last time they put Gus in zombie makeup he passed out. Happily, it looks like things worked out better this time, and we have the image to prove it:

The Walking Dead started filming season 11 in February. It’ll officially kick off on August 22.
