Lucy Liu is officially joining the DCEU in the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Back in 2019, we were blessed with at least one hilariously entertaining DC film in the form of Shazam! Zachary Levi plays the title character, a superhero empowered with the gifts of ancient gods by a wizard.

With the sequel set for a June 2023 release, we’re finally getting some updates on what to expect. Per Variety, Lucy Liu is joining the sequel as the villainous God Kalypso, the sister of Helen Mirren’s character, Hespera.

Levi will return for the sequel, as will Asher Angel, who plays Shazam’s young alter ego Billy Batson. We’ve also got David F. Sandberg back in the director’s chair, so it looks like the whole team is getting back together!

Who is Lucy Liu’s Kalypso?

In DC Comics, Kalypso and Hespera are the daughters of the Greek god Atlas. The connection to Shazam comes in because Atlas is one of the sources of Shazam’s powers; he famously has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. Put it all together and you’ve got Shazam.

In the first movie, Shazam had to contend with the villain Sivana, who wanted his powers. In the sequel, it seems like he’ll have his hands full with not one but two villains who just so happen to be the daughters of one of the gods he gets his powers from. Could it be that they’re pissed about this guy using their dad’s powers? The story is unknown, but with Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren as the bad guys, you know it’s going to be epic.

Get ready to see what goes down when Shazam: Fury of the Gods releases on June 2, 2023.

Filming begins on Black Adam movie with the Rock

And while we’re talking about the DCEU, we’d be remiss not to mention that spin-off Black Adam starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially begun filming, according to the Rock’s Instagram.

The superhero film also stars Noah Centineo as the Atom Smasher, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, amongst many more. After hitting many production roadblocks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming for the movie began much later than anticipated and will now be released in theaters on  July 29, 2022.

Next. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s son to appear in final season of The Walking Dead. dark
