The Last Kingdom, Netflix’s excellent medieval drama, is getting a fan convention of its very own, with some impressive guests already lined up. Get the details:

2021 is a tricky time for fan conventions, what with the coronavirus still on. But with vaccines getting rolled out, the industry is starting to putter to life again, and it may come back better than ever.

For instance, before the pandemic, there wasn’t a convention all about The Last Kingdom coming to Kansas City in August, and now, there is! WiC sister site Hidden Remote talked to fan Gina Phipps-Hubbell, who’s put on three cons dedicated to Outlander, hosted at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City. That con is called Sasnak City (“Sasnak” is “Kansas” spelled backwards and also a play on “Sassenach,” which is an Outlander thing.) The new convention is called Sasnak City Presents The Kingdom, and will be hosted at the same venue.

The convention already has some good guests lined up, including Eliza Butterworth (Lady Aelswith), Mark Rowley (Finan), Emily Cox (Brida), Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric), Magnus Bruun (Cnut), Christian Hillborg (Erik Thurgilson), and the big-ticket item, David Dawson (King Alfred).

“The shocker was David Dawson,” Phipps-Hubbell told Hidden Remote. “I think it was so shocking that people don’t believe it, and he’s not on social media to verify it.”

It’s definitely cool that a quality show like The Last Kingdom is getting this kind of attention. Activities include question-and-session sessions, a welcome party, photo and autograph sessions, and more. Tickets can range from a relatively reasonable for weekend passes to thousands of dollars for an all-inclusive, star-mingling experience.

The whole thing is scheduled to go down on August 26-29. Hopefully things will have cleared up enough by then that it’s safe. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll be able to get Alexander Dreymon (Uhtred) interested in the meantime…?

Head to the convention’s official website for more information and tickets.
