Jensen Ackles is taking something of his Supernatural character with him onto the third season of The Boys on Amazon Prime Video.

Jensen Ackles played Dean Winchester for over a decade on Supernatural. Dean was a monster hunter who lived to help people. Ackles’ new role on The Boys couldn’t be more different: he plays Soldier Boy, a Captain America parody whose show of patriotism masks cowardice and corruption.

The characters are very different, but there is at least one thing that links them: the wardrobe. “I don’t even know if I’m supposed to share this, but I’m not giving anything away,” Ackles told Entertainment Weekly. “Through no planning or work of my own devices, I somehow managed to end up with the same kind of boots for Soldier Boy that I wore as Dean Winchester. Different color, but same boots.”

Apparently he was offered several choices of footwear, but obviously he knew which ones he had to pick. “I just immediately looked at them and I kind of chuckled , ‘Well, I can tell you which ones I know work.'”

And that is probably the only thing that Dean Winchester and Soldier Boy will have in common.  “nyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy… will be disappointed,” showrunner Eric Kripke said a while back. Anyone who’s watched The Boys knows that the superheroes on the show are far from heroic, and Soldier Boy fits right in there.

The third season of The Boys is in production now. We don’t have a release date yet, but we’ll cross our fingers for late this year.
