See what Richard Madden looks like as Ikaris in Eternals

We still haven’t seen an official trailer for Marvel’s Eternals yet, but we’ve had unofficial looks at what Richard Madden may look like as the hero Ikaris.

Eternals is one of Marvel’s next big tentpole pictures, a sprawling epic about a group of immortal super-beings — that would be the Eternals — who have watched over Earth for millennia. The cast is impressive, and includes the likes of Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington and many more.

Game of Thrones veteran Richard Madden (Robb Stark) is also on board as the hero Ikaris, who has super-strength, can shoot energy bursts from his eyes, can fly, and serves as the tactical leader for the group. He’s got a lot on his plate. Although Marvel has yet to drop an official look at the movie, they have featured some art at events that points to what he’ll look like in the movie. For instance, this:

They’ve also got the action figures ready to go:

We don’t actually have images of Madden on set in his superhero costume, although there are photos of him on set wearing ordinary clothes. But where the shutterbugs come up short, the fan artists come through:

Eternals is due out in theaters on November 5, 2021 (and maybe on Disney+ for an extra fee, we’ll see what happens). The movie was originally supposed to come out last November, so you have to imagine that they have enough footage to put together a trailer or a sneak peak or something and are just waiting for the timing to be right. I imagine we’ll see something like that before too long.

In the end, the timing may have been for the best. After all, Eternals director Chloé Zhao just won her first Oscar for directing Nomadland, becoming the first woman of color to win an Oscar for Best Director. That will only drive up interest in Eternals before it lands in theaters.
