Hayden Christensen is returning to the role of Anakin Skywalker after years away. Matt Lanter, who voices Anakin in animated series, is also returning.
Matt Lanter first voiced the character of Anakin Skywalker, famous Jedi-turned-Sith and father to Luke and Leia, way back in 2008, for the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. That show wrapped up last year with its seventh season, but with so many new Star Wars projects in production, I doubt fans were under the impression they’d never hear from him again.
And indeed, Lanter confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he’d be back as Anakin at some point. “There’s some new Lucasfilm Animation going on. I’ve been a part of some things I can’t talk about yet. You’ll see Anakin again,” he promised.
"I never quite put Anakin down, whether I’m doing a video game or something new for Lucasfilm Animation."
Indeed, the world has rarely lacked for Star Wars content over this past decade and chance, and the future looks much the same. We don’t know where exactly Lanter could turn up as Anakin again, but there’s a good chance he could appear in The Bad Batch, a new animated show following the adventures of the titular cadre of clone troopers. This show is set after the end of the The Clone Wars, meaning that if Lanter does pop up, it’ll be as Darth Vader, not Anakin Skywalker.
Meanwhile, Hayden Christensen — who played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Star Wars prequel movies — is returning to the role for an upcoming show about Obi-Wan Kenobi, who will once again be played by Ewan McGregor. So whether it’s animation or live-action, they’ll be plenty of Anakin to go around.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch premieres on Disney+ on May 4. We’ll keep an ear out.
