It’s no secret that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the Arrowverse’s weirdest show. But it’s also its best Arrowverse show currently on the air, at least in my opinion. While the other shows drag on and often get boring, Legends of Tomorrow keeps fans entertained with its outlandish plots, like when a magical unicorn stabbed a woman with its horn at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
And according to the show’s producer Phil Klemmer, the show’s upcoming sixth season is going to be even weirder, hard as that is to picture. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that one centered on Astra (Olivia Swann) will feature an animated segment that pays homage to Disney princesses. It may not be an official Disney-DC collaboration, but it’s the closest we’re ever likely to get.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow does Disney
Klemmer revealed that the episode wasn’t initially animated, but “there’s a point in the story where it becomes so outlandish that I was really having a difficult time seeing it in my head as live-action.”
"[…] I was like, ‘Guys, this feels like a ’90s Disney movie.’ It was sort of a joke. ‘What if we hired a bunch of Disney animators from the ’90s who have all retired and did a ’90s feature thing?’"
I don’t think we could have asked for a better idea. This might even beat out R&B singer Sisqó’s cameo in season 5 when he performed “The Thong Song” for the Legends.
Along with the Disney-style episode, Klemmer promises plenty more weirdness to come. For instance, there will be a “Clue episode that’s based on a one-night, ultimate Werewolf-like card game come to life.” There will be an episode that “exists in the world of a fictional sitcom starring an Alf-like alien, only in our case it’s an actual alien.”
And Constantine (Matt Ryan) is getting his very own episode set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War. Klemmer says that this episode could in effect be one “from the Constantine TV show.” Just in case you missed it, HBO Max is making a Constantine show featuring a younger version of the supernatural detective.
And it’s likely that this series will connect into an untitled show that J.J. Abrams is working on involving characters from Justice League Dark. That series will essentially bring together all the magically inclined DC superheroes, which may include John Constantine, Swamp Thing, and Zatanna. But details are scarce for the time being.
The Legends of Tomorrow season 6 premieres this Sunday on The CW!
