John Barrowman and David Bradley returning to Doctor Who

Doctor Who actors John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) and David Bradley (the First Doctor) are returning to the franchise for an all-new theatrical event beginning in London next month.

The two fan-favorites have been shooting scenes for the forthcoming Time Fracture, “a ground-breaking Immersive Theatrical Adventure, plunges you into the incredible universe of Doctor Who.” The show is being produced by Immersive Everywhere, the creative minds behind London’s longest-running and critically acclaimed immersive theatre production, The Great Gatsby.

News that Bradley and Barrowman are involved in the project was broken on Time Fracture‘s official Twitter account, with subsequent interviews with the pair posted on Instagram.

Doctor Who veterans excited to reach a new generation of fans

Bradley, who starred as the First Doctor to close out Peter Capaldi’s time on the show, says that Time Fracture “is going to be something really special” and “an amazing experience.” The former Game of Thrones star adds that “anyone who sees the show who is not a Doctor Who fan when they go in, surely will be when they come out!”

The actors are expected to make cameo appearances, with little detail beyond that. The show will allow attendees to interact with the actors to create an immersive and audience-driven event on specially built sets.

The official synopsis for Time Fracture suggests that the theatrical show is set around the same time that fans first met Captain Jack: during The London Blitz in 1940. Interestingly, the plot also features UNIT’s return to the show, despite them not being canonically active during that period. This could suggest that the story will feature time travel:

"1940 – at the height of the Blitz. A weapon of unknown origin destroys a small corner of Mayfair, and simultaneously opens a rift in space and time. For decades, UNIT have fought undetected to protect the people of Earth from the dangers it poses. Weakened and beaten back as the fracture’s multiplied out of control, they’re close to defeat."

Speaking with the show’s producers, Barrowman enthused that he wanted to further reintroduce Captain Jack to this new generation of Doctor Who fans. The actor feels the show will be a celebration, encouraging fans to “dress up as favorite character.” He calls it “Comic-Con but with a storyline!”

Time Fracture will take place at Immersive | LDN in London and opens from May 26. Tickets for the production are on sale now and are available for dates throughout the coming year, with bookings filling up fast.
