Andrew Garfield denies he’s in Spider-Man: No Way Home
By Ashley Hurst
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to explore the vast multiverse in its upcoming movies, we’ve been sorting through a thicket of rumors. Perhaps no upcoming movie has sparked more speculation than Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s third solo film as Spidey. We know that some villains from the franchise’s past will turn up, like Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2) already confirming that he’s in it. An unconfirmed rumor has Charlie Cox’s Daredevil entering the fray!
One of the most exciting rumors is that the film will have Tom Holland’s Peter Parker meet up with previous iterations of the character played by Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Tobey Maguire (Sam Raimi’s trilogy). However, much to the disappointment of fans, Garfield has strongly denied the “crazy” rumors. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the actor said there’s nothing he can spoil because he’s not in the movie: “There isn’t anything to ruin, bro!”
Apparently, Garfield keeps up with the gossip. “I do have this Twitter account and I see how often Spider-Man is trending, and it’s like people freaking out about a thing and I’m just like, ‘Guys…’ I wish I could just be able to speak to everyone and say, like, ‘I recommend that you chill.’ I can’t speak for anything else apart from myself, they might be doing something. But I ain’t got a call.”
"I did not get a call. I would have gotten a call by now, that’s all I’m saying. I don’t want to rule anything out. Maybe they want to call me and say like, ‘Hey, people want this.’ Maybe they’re doing a market research thing!"
He’s clearly denying it, but if he is in the movie, I doubt he’d be allowed to confirm it. Let’s stay optimistic!
One big piece of evidence comes from the No Way Home set. According to this tweet by Simon Moore, Garfield’s Spidey stunt double may have been on set during production. In a now-deleted Instagram post, the double was tagged in the caption. As always, the internet has taken this one small hint and drawn conclusions.
Spider-Man fans are having a hard time believing Andrew Garfield
If Garfield thought his denial would kill the rumors, he was very wrong. Instead, fans have taken to Twitter to share their theories, or to altogether disregard what Garfield said. Check out some of the highlights below:
The only thing we can do is wait and see. Spider-Man: No Way Home opens on December 17, 2021.
