Marvel execs tease Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ future in the MCU
Julia Louis-Dreyfus shocked fans when she turned up as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. What’s next for her?
Marvel Studios has built a reputation for giving fans exciting character cameos in its television shows and films, and the franchise certainly lived up to that reputation during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The fifth episode of the Disney+ series introduced comic character Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, a spy and noblewoman with an attitude as intimidating as her skill set. And although MCU fans have yet to see Val in action on the screen, Marvel ensured her appearance would stir up excitement by casting a powerhouse to play her: Seinfeld and Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Unfortunately, Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t get much screen time during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Her character appears to introduce herself to John Walker after he is stripped him of his title, and again to officially introduce him as U.S. Agent in the finale. Clearly she has more to do, and fans are wondering where else in the MCU she’ll appear.
According to Marvel producers Nate Moore and Zoie Nagelhout, Louis-Dreyfus is down to play a larger role. “She’s so talented and you can do so much with her,” Moore told Entertainment Weekly. “And she’s game for it. She certainly didn’t come to us and say, ‘I’ll be in one show once.’ She was like, ‘I want to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.’ And we said, ‘Great! Let’s get you in and let’s figure out how to use you.’ And the truth is, I think you will see her in the future. Definitely.”
"It’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘She’s never going to do it.’ It is probably an open secret that most of us at Marvel are kind of obsessed with Seinfeld, probably more than Veep. Just the idea that she would be in a Marvel show… Is it really going to happen? And the fact that she was so game blew our minds."
Seeing Louis-Dreyfus in the role likely blew fans’ minds nearly as much, and we’re excited to see where she takes Val’s character moving forward. There’s no word on when we might see John Walker or his new boss just yet, but with so many Marvel projects in the works and a Captain America 4 on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time.
