The Walking Dead: Jeffrey Dean Morgan hints at Negan spin-off series

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan just might have a future in a post-The Walking Dead world.

The Walking Dead is ending with its upcoming eleventh season, but AMC is already preparing a bunch of spin-offs. Carol and Daryl are getting a spin-off, for instance. And speaking with Cinepop, Jeffrey Dean Morgan cryptically said that “It’s going to be the end of Negan as we know him on The Walking Dead but we may see Negan down the line somewhere else.”

We may see Negan somewhere down the line? Alright, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, we’re onto you!

With The Walking Dead coming to an end next year, Morgan and his fellow castmates’ lives are about to change. Negan admitted that he’ll miss the show since it’s been huge a huge part of his life for so long. But there are still rumors about Negan getting his own spin-off show. Perhaps that is the “down the line” future he’s referring to.

In The Walking Dead season 10 finale, “Here’s Negan,” we finally saw Negan’s origin story, which involved his late wife Lucille (played by Hilarie Burton, Morgan’s real-life wife). It gave us just a taste of what a Negan-centric series could look like, and based on fan reactions to the episode, I’d say they have the stamp of approval to go further.

This isn’t the first time Jeffrey Dean Morgan has alluded to a potential Negan spin-off. A few weeks ago when he stopped by Conan, he told Conan O’Brien, “We’ll see. It’s definitely being talked about. I think they’re thinking of a couple different ideas, but I’ve definitely had conversations about possibly continuing the story of Negan.”

How would a Negan spin-off work

Given all this potential spin-off talk, it could very well be that Negan will make it through the series finale alive. That’s not guaranteed, of course, since Maggie (Lauren Cohan) wants to see him dead, and with his refusal to leave Alexandria, she’ll have a chance to act on her desire.

There are a couple of options for a spin-off here. We could either see Negan die a redemptive death in the final season (similar to Rick Grimes’ storyline in the comics) and get a spin-off series about his back story, or perhaps Negan will make it through unscathed and the potential spin-off could be his life after the events of the final season.

Whatever they decide, there are plenty of ways they can bring Jeffrey Dean Morgan back, and we’ll be waiting to see just how after The Walking Dead ends next year.
