Kingkiller author Patrick Rothfuss trolls fans about The Doors of Stone

The first book in the Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy, The Name of the Wind, came out in 2007. Sequel The Wise Man’s Fear landed in 2011, and we’ve been waiting for The Doors of Stone ever since. Author Patrick Rothfuss has written a few terrific short stories in the meantime, including the novella The Slow Regard of Silent Things, but nothing that’s really sated fans waiting for the third and final book.

At this point, some fans fear the book will never come out. The author has taken to dropping little hints about The Doors of Stone on his Twitch streams, which probably only adds to the flood of messages he receives asking after it. And remember that’s been going on for years. One can imagine him being ground down by the questions at this point.

Some fans saw Rothfuss tweet “The Doors of Stone” and took a minute to realize that he wasn’t making some kind of actual announcement about it. Then the disappointment set in:

There are still no changes in the status of The Doors of Stone. It’s sure to be released one day, and that will be a very good day indeed! In the meantime, it’s not like there aren’t lots of other fantasy books out there to explore.
