It’s hard to believe that The Walking Dead is ending. AMC’s zombie drama started way back in 2010, and every year since has brought a new crop of flesh-eating, in-fighting horror, with a couple of spin-offs cropping up along the way to keep the original show company.

But believe it or not, that original show is coming to an end with the upcoming season 11, which will premiere on August 22 of 2021 and probably last into 2022. The crew is filming the final, extended season right now, and released a little “in production” video to mark the occasion:

“In production for #TWD includes face shields, trotting in place, and giggles.” Khary Payton (Ezekiel), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Princess (Paola Lázaro) and others look like they’re having a grand old time on set. So even if you’re sad about the show ending, at least know there’s a lot of joy going into the production.

There are a lot of Walking Dead spin-offs coming

And really, “ending” might be an exaggeration. Yes, the original series is almost over, but it’s not even close to the end of The Walking Dead universe. Like we said, there are two spin-offs already on the air: Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and AMC is readying several beyond that. There’s the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, a spin-off all about the adventures of Carol and Daryl, and of course those Rick Grimes movies. There’s even talk of Walking Dead comedy and a spin-off revolving around Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). So the end of The Walking Dead is more sweet than bitter.
