By this point, it seems like most everyone in Hollywood has appeared in a superhero movie at some point. The genre is the biggest, most lucrative thing around, with plenty of opportunities to get involved. A Quiet Place Part II star Emily Blunt may be one of the few actors who hasn’t indulged, although fans have long dreamed of seeing her play the Invisible Woman in Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, preferably alongside husband John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic.

This particular fan-casting has been talked about for a while now, but according to Blunt, it’s nothing more than fun speculation. “That is fan-casting,” she during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’”

Emily Blunt: “I don’t like [superhero movies]. I really don’t.”

Blunt denied that she sees superhero flicks as “beneath her,” explain that she would have loved to have played Black Widow when she had the chance. “I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man,” she said. “I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr – it would’ve been amazing. But I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t.”

Famously, Blunt was unable to play Natasha Romanoff because of contract issues. Black Widow ended up being played by Scarlett Johansson, and the rest is history.

All that said, Blunt doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of playing a superhero in the future, but it would have to be someone who stands out from the glut of heroes already out there. “It’s been exhausted,” Blunt said. “We are inundated – it’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well. It’s not to say that I’d never want to play [a superhero]. It would just have to be something so cool and a really cool character, and then I’d be interested.”

On the flip side, John Krasinski is passionate about the possibility of playing Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. “I would love that! I mean listen, I’m still getting into the whole superhero thing,” he told ScreenRant in 2018. “I didn’t read comics as a kid, not as many. I read some but not as much, but I’m a huge superhero fan so yeah, I’d love to do something like that.”

It remains to be seen whether we could one day see these two together as superheroes. But Blunt and Krasinski are still teaming up for A Quiet Place II, in theaters on May 28!
