Outlander star confirms he’s in Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon
By Dan Selcke
Earlier this week, Outlander star Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie) was spotted in full costume on the set of House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. The 60-year-old Scottish actor is coming to Westeros, and we can’t wait to see what he brings with him.
That said, the news wasn’t technically confirmed, even though the evidence was pretty insurmountable. Perhaps realizing this, McTavish just confirmed in an interview with Stylist that he is indeed a part of the Game of Thrones spin-off. “I’m enjoying that, yes,” he said. “I’m really having a lot of fun. We’ve just started. It’s a very big project, so we’re getting to know each other. They’re lovely people. It’s great, but I can’t tell you too much. I can’t tell you really anything about the story! But it involves a lot dragons.”
McTavish is not kidding when he says it involves a lot of dragons. House of the Dragon is set during a time in Westeros when dragons are still commonplace, and a lot of the characters ride them. Not only that, but they take them to war against each other. Things could get nuts.
Is Sam Heughan in House of the Dragon as well?
McTavish was giving this interview with his Outlander costar Sam Heughan, who plays leading Jamie Fraser. The two of them are promoting their new documentary series Men In Kilts, but Heughan may also be nursing a wish to ride a dragon himself. “Am I in it?” he joked.
Laughing, McTavish played along. “So far, no. And I have been waiting… I have to say ‘Where is Sam?’ because it’s always in my contract now.”
Hey, weirder things have happened.
As for who McTavish is playing in House of the Dragon, he wasn’t forthcoming about that. But we have our ideas:
