Invincible is Amazon’s latest hit show, a multi-generational superhero story based on the comic book of the same name by Robert Kirkman. Distinguished by its stellar voice cast, twisty story and memorable ultra-violence, the first season proved popular enough that Amazon has already ordered a couple more seasons, and fans are wondering what the series would look like as a live-action production.

We’re turning to fan-art to light the way. For instance, Jackson Caspersz created this piece showing what Michael Fassbender would look like as the Immortal (voiced by Ross Marquand), one of the many superheroes in the story:

Kudos for including the Immortal’s trademark full-beard-but-no-mustache facial hair. It’s a bold hair choice and we respect it.

Who is the Immortal on Invincible?

And it’s not like anyone is going to mock the Immortal for his facial hair, because he’s one of the strongest of Earth’s heroes, one of the few who showed he could go at least a few rounds with the tremendously powerful Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons)…although Omni-Man still killed him in the end…again. The Immortal dies twice over the course of the first season, both times at Omni-Man’s hands.

We know the basics about the Immortal’s biography. He was once a barbarian who got exposed to some kind of cosmic anomaly that made him…well, immortal. He went on to fight in the Crusades and apparently was Abraham Lincoln, who does have similarly distinctive facial hair. At the start of the show he’s the leader of the Guardians of the Globe…before Omni-Man wipes them all out, anyway.

Later, the Mauler Twins ( Kevin Michael Richardson) revive the Immortal in the hopes that he’ll help them defeat the new Guardians of the Globe, but instead he makes a bee-line for Omni-Man, intent on revenge. It doesn’t go well, but as his name implies, the Immortal likely isn’t dead for good.

We’ll have to wait until season 2 to find out for sure what becomes of the Immortal. As for a live-action version of Invincible, I wouldn’t be shocked to see it happen given how popular the first season of the animated show has been. And if they’re looking for someone to play the Immortal, they could do a lot worse than Michael Fassbender.
