John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) has a reputation for being one of the most exuberant, silly and totally unpredictable celebrities out there. Recent allegations of sexual misconduct against former Doctor Who co-star Noel Clarke (Mickey Smith) have led people to reexamine Barrowman’s own history on set, leading Big Finish to pull an upcoming Torchwood audio drama.
Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes Doctor Who feature, at a pop culture convention or on social media, Barrowman is known as a beacon of joy. According to the BBC, reports that Barrowman repeatedly exposed himself on set have led Big Finish to pull the Torchwood audio story that was set for release later this month. “We have no plans to publish this title at this time,” Big Finish said in a statement.
Torchwood audio story would have reunited John Barrowman and David Tennant
The audio drama would have reunited Barrowman and David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, for a brand new audio adventure, pairing well with the release of the upcoming return of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor in an all-new set of audio dramas.
Barrowman’s Captain Jack Harkness made his debut in 2005 during the first season of the Doctor Who revival. Eccleston was the Doctor at that point, and after his regeneration Captain Jack returned during Tennant’s tenure. From there, Barrowman joined the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood as the series lead.
Captain Jack thrilled fans when he made an appearance in the 2021 Doctor Who New Year’s Day special, “Revolution of the Daleks.”
Barrowman apologized for his antics in 2008 after exposing himself during a BBC Radio 1 broadcast. This month he talked again about his actions, which he referred to as “high-spirited behavior,” noting that “with the benefit of hindsight, that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behavior and I have apologized for this previously.”
It’s unclear at this point whether Big Finish would consider releasing the Torchwood audio stories at a later point.
