The Wheel of Time season 2 is officially happening
By John Fallon
The Wheel of Time keeps on turning. After almost two years of on-and-off production, Amazon has reportedly completed filming on the first season of its adaptation of Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic. And the team is wasting no time rolling into production on season 2, meaning that Amazon has renewed the series even before the first season drops.
And Amazon doesn’t care who knows it. In fact, it’s even shared a look at the script for the first episode of season 2:
The second season premiere is titled “A Taste of Solitude” and is written by Amanda Kate Shuman. Shuman also wrote the the second episode of season 1, “Shadow’s Waiting.” Due to it’s connection to the books, the episode title may leave fans of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy with some questions.
“A Taste of Solitude” is the title of the 18th chapter of Lord of Chaos, the sixth book in the series. In that chapter, mean character Rand al’Thor seeks out the historian and philosopher Herid Fel, hoping to get insight about the coming Last Battle. He goes on about the Wheel of Time and how the battle with the Dark One rages in cycles with the turning of the Wheel, and Rand hopes to receive insight as to how to fight the Last Battle.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean the show will have already reached Lord of Chaos by the second season premiere, but perhaps the writers will incorporate some ideas from that chapter into the episode.
Amazon renews The Wheel of Time for a second season before the first premieres
That Amazon is releasing this image shows that work on season 2 is progressing well. “The nice thing about [shutting down production] is that we will now have all eight scripts going into prep for season 2, which will let us do such a better job with it,” showrunner Rafe Judkins said last summer when production was on hiatus thanks to the pandemic. “It lets me focus more on the scripts and the editing that we’re doing right now because were not shooting.”
With all that extra time to perfect the scripts, it makes sense that Amazon Studios would be ready to start filming the second season as soon as possible.
