Jason Momoa is a charismatic guy; anyone who’s watched him as Aquaman or Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones knows that. That extends to his personal life, well; he’s known for having a larger-than-life presence in interviews and what-not, which makes him a good subject for a reality show.
Enter On The Roam, a new show from Discovery where Momoa wanders the country meeting interesting people, whether they be artists, athletes or musicians. “On the Roam is an endless quest for me to discover extraordinary people and places,” he said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Discovery on this journey.”
Discovery exec Nancy Daniels is also psyched to be working with Momoa:
"We are so thrilled to welcome Jason to the Discovery family! He brings such fresh curiosity and has a magnetic pull to those who’ve become masters of their craft. This is a series about finding your personal inspiration through exploration and immersing yourself in other people’s passions and processes. I’m incredibly excited for viewers to follow Jason’s quest and learn with him along the way."
There’s no word on when On The Roam might premiere. We assume it’ll come to Discovery and Discovery+, although it’s possible things could change in light of the recent announcement that Discovery will be merging with WarnerMedia. Might On The Roam end up on HBO Max? Given that Momoa is also very involved in the DCEU, it would fit.
Jason Momoa helped write Aquaman 2
Speaking of the DCEU, Momoa recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about Aquaman 2, due out late next year. It’s not surprising to hear that he’s very invested in that project as well.
“After we ended the first one, I went in with my writing partner and we dreamed up the second one,” Momoa said. “We went in, we pitched the idea…the best thing I can give you is that I love it so much that I participated in the writing of it. And so we did the first treatment, and then James and our original writer David finished it off, and all of our hearts are in it.”
Momoa also revealed the filming on the sequel begins this July.
Aquaman 2 will come out on December 16, 2022.
