Excitement continues to build ahead of Lucifer season 5B, which drops on Thursday, May 28 at midnight. The Netflix hit still has another season to go before it ends, and that makes these eight episodes even more important to fans who have been on a journey with the show from the beginning.
In the mid-season finale, Dennis Haysbert (as God) shows up to stop a battle between Lucifer, Amenadiel, Maze and Lucifer’s twin brother Michael. God doesn’t want to see his children fighting and endeavors to broker peace. D.B. Woodside talked to ET Online about what fans can expect in this emotional new crop of episodes.
“Dennis Haysbert, who plays good old dad, God, he’s going to be there all throughout 5B,” Woodside said. “He has incredible scenes with both his sons. Dennis gets to act with every member of the cast, whether they know he’s God or not. There are going to be incredible moments there.”
D.B. Woodside teases “daddy issues” in Lucifer season 5B
God’s abilities as a father have been talked about through all five seasons of the show, but now that God is actually around in person, it’s a chance for Amenadiel and Lucifer to really work out their issues. “I just think with the introduction of God, you are going to be bringing in daddy issues that Lucifer and Amenadiel both have, and some of those need to be cleaned up,” Woodside said.
The actor obviously can’t reveal much about what’s coming in 5B, but he hints at “something shocking” that takes place near the end of the season that “is going to break everyone’s heart.”
Woodside is particularly proud of the show’s “Black Lives Matter episode,” as it’s known among the cast and crew. In the episode, Woodside says that Amenadiel “decides to join the police department.” Since Lucifer is set among police officers and the work they do, Woodside notes that there was a responsibility to talk about BLM. “I don’t think that you can, in this day and age, have a show about a police department and not tackle the issue. It would just be criminal. And so, they do. They tackle it full on.”
There are lots of big moments coming in the second half of season 5. Beyond that, filming has already wrapped on season 6. Netflix has not released a premiere date for Lucifer season 6, but fans can rest easy knowing they won’t have to wait too long to see what happens.
