Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Richard Madden reunite in Eternals trailer
By Dan Selcke
Not to oversell it, but the first trailer for Eternals makes it look like the most beautiful Marvel movie yet produced. Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao has clearly brought some of her unique sensibility to this project, which immediately sets itself a part from some of the other stuff coming out of Marvel Studios. The warm mid-morning lighting, the gorgeous landscape shots…this looks like it could be something special.
Watch for yourself below:
Eternals is about a group of superpowered beings who have watched over Earth for millennia, silently guiding without interfering…until now. Game of Thrones veteran Richard Madden (Robb Stark) and Salma Hayek play Ikaris and Ajax, two of the leaders of the group. We’ve also got Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani and fellow Game of Thrones star Kit Harington (Jon Snow) in the cast — Harington plays a human hero, Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight (make your Night’s Watch jokes here).
It’s an impressive cast. The whole thing looks impressive and bold, and should really get Marvel’s Phase 4 going when it hits theaters later this year.
Salma Hayek talks about diversity in Eternals: “It doesn’t feel forced”
Salma Hayek talked about her own experience on Eternals with Variety, starting with her superhero outfit. “I am claustrophobic. I was terrified of the costume. I was terrified,” she said. “Because if I cannot move and it’s kind of thick… I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m not going to be able to breathe. It’s going to drive me crazy. And I went to put it on, I found myself profoundly moved. It was a very strange experience because I didn’t expect it. I forgot about, ‘how does it fit? Am I going to get a claustrophobic attack?’”
"“All I could see was, ‘Oh my God, here’s a Mexican female in this outfit and this is really happening. And yes, we get to be superheroes.’”"
Hayek talked a little more about the diversity in the movie: “I think a lot of people are going to feel seen and that’s important and that’s what matters. It’s not diverse for the sake of being diverse. It’s the way she chose every single one of us that really creates a family for the purpose of the Eternals. For the purpose of the film. It doesn’t feel forced.”
Eternals comes out this November.
