HBO Max has been out for a year. How is it faring in the Streaming Wars? Pretty well, at least according to HBO Max itself.

The service put out a graph in honor of its one-year birthday. The total number of subscribers is now around 44 million, which is behind Disney+ and especially Netflix but not too shabby, and remember that HBO Max released the year after Disney+.

As for popular content, it’s about what you’d expect: on the movie side, HBO Max saw success with stuff like Wonder Woman 1984Mortal Kombat and Godzilla vs. Kong, all movies that also released simultaneously in theaters. As for TV, series like The UndoingLovecraft Country all did well, although The Flight Attendant was the only HBO Max original series to make it onto the list.

The Mare of Easttown sets record for HBO Max

Mare of Easttown, the HBO series starring Kate Winslet as a troubled detective with a very specific small town Pennsylvania accent, has definitely made waves over the course of its seven episodes. According to Uproxx, the finale was the most watched TV episode of anything yet shown on HBO Max.

After a rocky start, HBO Max has pretty much proved that it’s at least a legitimate combatant in the Streaming Wars. Hopefully, WarnerMedia’s recent merger with Discovery only helps things rather than mucks them up.
