Lucifer season 6 will be a “much more intimate season”
Now that the second half of Lucifer season 5 has been unleashed upon the world, fans are eager to learn more about what’s coming in season 6. Showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson opened up in an interview with Collider about the “much more intimate” nature of season 6 and why 10 episodes is the perfect number needed to finish the story.
Lucifer’s sixth and final season will feel a lot more smaller than season 5, and that’s by design. “Season 6, partly because of COVID, became a much more intimate season,” Modrovich said. “But also because we knew we had done this kind of splashy Season 5B, with a lot of spectacle, we didn’t want to try to top ourselves and just be empty action. So we found the more intimate story for all of our characters, and a much more emotional one.”
The second half of Lucifer season 5 builds up to a major battle in the season finale that takes place at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Season 6 won’t necessarily open up new stories for the characters, but Modrovich says that they “dug to a deeper level with everybody.”
Lucifer season 6 will feature 10 “tight and strong” episodes
Season 5 was supposed to be the last season of the series, but when the opportunity for a sixth and final season presented itself, Henderson and Modrovich gave it serious consideration. “And Ildy and I talked a bunch, and we got the [writers] room together, we all talked. And then we found a story, but it felt like 10 episodes. Sometimes you just get a sense of things.”
Once the magic number of episodes had been determined, it was a matter of making sure that the finale season was “tight and strong and focused, and 10 [episodes] felt like the exact right number of episodes to let us still play a bit, but also make sure we stuck the landing.”
This makes sense given that many of the season 5 stories were wrapped up nicely. But don’t think for a moment that season 6 won’t be as exciting as season 5. Henderson teases that the series finale was pricey. “If you think the Season 5 finale [was big], our Season 6 finale…cost us more. I’ll leave that to interpretation.”
