The Trickster God might have died by Thanos’ hand at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, but never rule him down for the count. If you’re wondering how Loki is able to star in his own Disney+ series after losing his life in Infinity War, the answer lies in Avengers: Endgame.
Thanks to the Multiverse and the malleability of the timeline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s possible for Loki to be dead in the future but to be alive and well in the past, and possibly alive in a parallel universe that could cross over into the present-day timeline.
During Endgame, present-day Tony Stark and Scott Lang try to steal the Tesseract from past-Tony Stark and Thor, who have just taken Thor’s brother into custody after the events of the first Avengers movie. These moments that sets off a chain of events that gives Loki the second chance he needs.
Is Loki alive after Endgame?
Tony and Scott’s plan is to give past-Tony a minor cardiac episode so that everyone is distracted while they make away with the Tesseract. When Tony hits the ground, the Tesseract suitcase goes flying and a grumpy Hulk smashes through a wall, which knocks it out of the case. It lands at Loki’s feet.
Loki, never one to turn down an opportunity, promptly picks it up and disappears.
This causes a splintering in the timeline, and that’s why the Time Variance Authority is hot on Loki’s heels in previews of the new Disney+ series. They need to fix the timeline and they need Loki’s help to do it.
Now that he is working with the TVA, his fate is uncertain. Though he’s dead in the present, it’s hard to understand what that means in his new reality or how long he can survive in the alternate timeline.
Loki fans are happy to know Loki is back in action, and they will take as much of him as Marvel can provide. See what happens when Loki arrives on Disney+ on June 9.
