We’ve known for a while that Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles was joining Amazon’s iconoclastic superhero series The Boys as Soldier Boy, one of the first heroes created by the malignant Vought corporation. Now, the series has finally showed us what he’ll look like in costume:

Complete with shield and body armor, Soldier Boy definitely gives off Captain America vibes, and he’s supposed to. The Boys is all about subverting popular conceptions of superheroes, and Soldier Boy fits right in. In the same way that Homelander is a grotesque, psychopathic take on Superman, Soldier Boy is a twisted mirror of Captain America. While the Marvel hero is brave and a fearless leader, Soldier Boy is a cowardly suck-up willing to commit heinous acts for status and advancement. He and Homelander should get along famously.

Jensen Ackles won’t sport his huge quarantine beard in The Boys season 3

One other note: in this image, Ackles has a nice, respectable, closely cropped beard. Some fans wondered if he was going to show up on The Boys with his full bushy quarantine beard in place, something he showed off a couple of times prior:

But it was not to be.

We don’t know exactly when The Boys season 3 will premiere, but with filming ongoing and Amazon doing more marketing, hopefully it’ll be before the end of the year.
