Pedro Pascal confirms The Mandalorian season 3 not coming until 2022
By Dan Selcke
For the first time since it started, a full year will pass without new episodes of The Mandalorian. Hear it from the mouths of two Star Wars icons:
Disney kicked off its Star Wars Television Universe with The Mandalorian back in 2019, and it was an instant hit. Now we’re all on the edge of our seats to see the continued adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu in season 3, but we’ll have to wait a minute. The second season of the show followed the year after the first, but it looks like the third will skip a year.
Instead, this December we’ll be watching The Book of Boba Fett, a spin-off about the adventures o the famous bounty hunter (Temuera Morrison). Creator Jon Favreau promised that The Mandalorian season 3 would be along “pretty soon” after that, which basically means won’t see it until early in 2022.
In fact, The Mandalorian team hasn’t even started shooting the third season. That’s according to star Pedro Pascal, who was talking to fellow Star Wars icon Ewan McGregor as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series. Check out the clip below:
“We haven’t shot a third season,” Pascal says when McGregor asks about production, but stops himself from saying anything further. “Let me tell you what’s going on,” he jokes, knowing that Disney snipers would probably pick him off right then and there if he said anything more.
I imagine that the original idea was to get a third season of The Mandalorian out to us by 2021 but the pandemic threw a wrench into things. It’s a shame the new season won’t be out sooner, but like I said, Disney has a whole Star Wars Television Universe lined up for us, including a show about McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. This time next year, I don’t think we’ll be complaining about having to wait too long before return trips to that galaxy far, far away.
