Paramount+ launches $5 ad-supported tier
Paramount+ takes a big step with a new Essential subscription plan that includes many of the benefits of the Premium Plan but with limited ads. Trek News reports that the new option, which is $4.99 a month, is a great option for new users who don’t want to pay $9.99 per month.
The Essential Plan will give users ad-free access to all of the series and movies available on the streaming service, along with Championship League games and around-the-clock news from CBSN. By contrast, the Premium Plan offers all of those options along with live access to local CBS affiliate stations and mobile downloads. It also supports 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision.
Subscribers who are already using the old limited commercial option will be able to continue using it, but it will not be available to new subscribers.
Paramount+ offers a less expensive option for subscribers
After replacing CBS All Access in March 2021, the newly revamped streaming service is already making big moves. One of the big changes coming in late June is a new “My List” feature that will allow subscribers to keep track of shows and movies they want to watch later. This new feature will be available for all users with Essential and Premium plans.
Paramount+ is the home of the Star Trek franchise. There are multiple Trek projects in the works right now, in addition to a variety of other new shows. Having a dynamic platform helps these shows gain traction with audiences who will embrace the service rather than frowning at the thought of yet another streaming service vying for attention.
By the end of the summer, Paramount+ plans to have 2,500 movies available in its library, with 1,000 ready to go by June 10. New library movies are being added regularly, with exclusive original content on the way later this year.
