Watch the first bloody footage from Vikings: Valhalla
By Dan Selcke
Vikings: Valhalla will give Vikings fans all the historical action they want.
After six seasons on History, Vikings concluded the tale of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons last year, weirdly releasing the full final season on Amazon Prime Video before it aired on normal TV. Things will be a little more straightforward for the follow-up series Vikings: Valhalla, which is coming to Netflix soon!
We don’t know exactly how soon, but the streaming service is ready to release some behind-the-scenes footage from the series. Set around 100 years after the end of Vikings, Valhalla will feature several famous Vikings from history (and myth that got intermingled with history over time), including Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), Harald Hardrada (Leo Suter), King William the Conqueror and more. Watch them in action below:
It looks like the show will deliver the historical action that Vikings fans have come to expect. And with Netflix’s money behind it, it appears the series is coming out of the gate with impressive battles and sets and such.
Creator Michael Hirst famously wrote every single episode of Vikings. He’ll still be around for Valhalla, but only as an executive producer. Showrunning duties will go to Jeb Stuart, who wrote Die Hard and The Fugitive, so he has a pretty impressive pedigree too.
Like we said, there’s no release date for Vikings: Valhalla yet, but clearly it’s coming along. And it’ll be good for Netflix to have another historical show now that The Last Kingdom is on its way out.
