The Netflix announcements keep coming during Geeked Week, almost too fast to cover. File these latest two under “Netflix adapting horror video game series.”

First up, the streaming service has cast actor Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker in its upcoming Resident Evil show. Wesker is one of the biggest characters from the games; he started out as a supporting character in the first game and eventually became one of its iconic villains.

That said, the Netflix Resident Evil show looks to have little to do with the games, other than there being a lot of zombies running around. It will be told across two timelines: in one, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker move to Raccoon City with their dad, who may be hiding secrets that could destroy the world. In the other, we pick up with Jade a decade later after the world is pretty well destroyed, with fewer than 15 million people left alive in the wake of the zombie apocalypse.

Lance Reddick is an excellent actor who I’m sure is up to playing whatever version of Wesker this show has. He’s known for playing Charon in the John Wick movies, but to me he’ll always be the calculating Cedric Daniels from HBO’s The Wire.

Castlevania spin-off is coming to Netflix

Moving from Capcom to Konami, Netflix also announced a new spin-off for its Castlevania series. The original show wrapped up its four-season run just the other month, but if you’ve ever played the games, you know that Dracula keeps coming back.

The new show will be set in the 18th century against the backdrop of the French Revolution. “We’ve lived with these characters in this part of the Castlevania timeline for the last four or five years — and now, we’re gonna be venturing elsewhere in the timeline,” said executive producer Kevin Kolde. “There are great characters to work with and I’m excited to develop them. I’m excited for people to get to see what we do with them.”

There’s no release date for either the Resident Evil show or the Castlevania spin-off as of yet. But there is a whole lot more video game show news:

And there’s a full trailer for their Dynasty Warriors show:

And thus Geeked Week comes to an end.
