From Arrival to Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve has become synonymous with beautiful movies. And it sounds like Dune will be no different. Only recently, cast member Dave Bautista (Glossu Rabban Harkonnen) rhapsodized about the big-budget adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic. Now, Jason Momoa (Duncan Idaho) is heaping praise on the film: “It’s a masterpiece.”

Dune is one of many movies delayed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic; at the moment, it’s due out in October of this year. Hopefully theaters will be fully back up and running again by the time it premieres. A Quiet Place 2 making over $100 million at the box office is certainly a good sign that things are moving in the right direction.

But while we haven’t been able to watch Dune, Momoa and the other cast members have. Momoa even took his kids along for the ride. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actor shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated film. It doesn’t disappoint, but parents, be warned that its not aimed at kids:

"I got to see it. It was really cool because my kids were up here, and so we got to take them to it. The first time I got to see something like that with my kids, it’s a very adult movie, but so beautiful."

Momoa’s kids may have to wait a couple more years before they can see him in any of his other well-known roles. For instance, his portrayal of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones was not at all child-friendly.

Momoa is just one member of a stacked cast that also includes Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) and Oscar Isaac (Duke Leto).

Jason Momoa wants to make a film with Dwayne Johnson

Sometimes it feels like Dwayne Johnson appears in approximately 10,000 movies a year. It’s a surprise he hasn’t worked alongside Momoa on anything yet, but both parties are down for it.

During the interview with Fallon, Momoa explained why it hasn’t happened yet. “We tried to get together and make a movie together but it’s just he’s way busier than I am and I’m pretty busy right now so, one of these days.”

"We will! And it’s really cool because now he’s kind of in my pocket so I can call him up and be like, ‘Yo!’ and I got him."

Does Johnson owe Momoa a favor? Sounds like a good story.

In the meantime, Momoa will have to settle for working alongside Dave Bautista, another former wrestler, in Dune. In fact, he can’t get enough of acting with Bautista, since the two are set to reunite in season 2 of Apple TV+ series See.

Dune premieres both in theaters and for streaming on HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
