What is the next MCU show after Loki?
The executives at Marvel Studios have always had a plan. In fact, they’re in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with every release through 2023 carefully mapped out. While the pandemic tossed a wrench into those plans, things are getting back on track, and now it’s time to think about what MCU series is coming to Disney+ after Loki.
Loki arrives on Disney+ on June 9, following in the footsteps of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Loki will run for a total of six episodes. It will be followed by the release of Black Widow on July 9, which will be released in theaters and at home through the Disney+ Premiere Access option.
But that’s a movie. What’s the next Disney+ series Marvel fans get to enjoy?
What If…? will be the next MCU series on Disney+ after Loki
Though the schedule has been a bit malleable over the past few months, it looks like the animated series What If…? will follow Loki later this summer. The series will explore alternate realities, answering the question of what could have happened if certain things in the MCU had done differently.
What If…? features a talented cast of voice actors anchored by Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher. We also get performances from MCU stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillen, Hayley Atwell, Natalie Portman and more. It will also feature Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa.
There’s no release date for What If…? but the targeted premiere date suggests that it should land on Disney+ before the September 3 arrival of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in theaters. Then Eternals, another movie, arrives on November 5, with two more series — Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye — set to debut in the fall.
After the disruption caused by the pandemic, it’s not surprising that the calendar isn’t set in stone yet. At this point it looks like What If…? will be the next series to follow Loki, but that could change.
