Lovecraft Country star Jurnee Smollett teases potential season 2
Lovecraft Country, HBO’s horror series that looked at the Black experience in America, hasn’t been picked up for a second season, but by all accounts it should only be a matter of time before HBO makes the announcement, because star Jurnee Smollett (Letitia Dandridge) is ready for it. Smollett talked to Deadline about the potential for season 2 and how she’s ready to jump back into things.
Plus, creator Misha Green is already hard at work on a second season, and Smollett is very excited about it. “I have no idea what Misha is planning,” she said. “All she’s told me is that it’s bold and unlike anything that’s ever been on TV.”
Will there be a Lovecraft Country season 2?
Lovecraft Country became an instant classic as soon as it premiered, blending the racial tensions of 1950s America with supernatural elements that made for a wholly unique experience. “I have no doubt if, and when, there is a season 2, whatever Misha plans will for sure be disruptive,” Smollett said.
Though HBO has remained mum on the possibility of Lovecraft Country season 2, it’s hard to imagine a reason why the show would end after one season, given that fans enjoyed it and there seems to be a lot of energy among the creatives.
At first, Smollett didn’t think she could return to her role as Leti, but things have changed. “When we wrapped season 1, I thought there is no way in hell I could ever step back into this world and yet now I’m like, oh, I just want to go back.” Let’s hope fans get an announcement from HBO soon so this incredible story can continue.
