Black Widow’s Florence Pugh wants to work with the Hulk

Florence Pugh makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as assassin Yelena Belova — a colleague of Natasha Romanoff’s — in Black Widow. The movie arrives on July 9, but the movie is only the beginning for the talented actor. SyFy Wire spoke with Pugh during a press junket for the long-awaited Marvel film, and she expressed interest in working with one MCU character above all.

“Oh, I was gonna say The Hulk,” Pugh said after costar Rachel Weisz offered up the same choice. The actors agreed that there is enough Hulk to go around. “Imagine if you could control him. You’d have, like, the ultimate weapon,” Weisz added.

Black Widow star Florence Pugh is starting her journey in the MCU

In addition to appearing alongside Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, Pugh’s Yelena will appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye, which stars Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. Steinfeld, as Kate Bishop, will take over for Hawkeye as the archer in future Avengers team-ups. Meanwhile, Tatiana Maslany is playing Jennifer Walters, aka the She-Hulk, in her own, separate show.

Mark Ruffalo will appear in She-Hulk as Bruce Banner, which means there will be opportunities for he and Pugh to work together at some point, whether on the big or small screen. Thanks to the vastness of the MCU and the infinite possibilities afforded by Disney+, the notion of crossovers, team-ups and even cameos is more likely than ever.

For now, Pugh is happy to focus on her experience working with Avengers OG Scarlett Johansson. “Literally on my first day I was, like, throwing Scarlett up against a wall, and she was smashing my face in the sink. And I just remember, like, there was no greater way to just break the ice than really wrestling Scarlett Johansson to the floor.”

With the success that Black Widow is sure to bring, let’s hope Marvel finds a way for Johansson and Pugh to work together in the future…or the past. Kevin Fiege said prequels are possible, so fingers crossed that Yelena and Natasha will ride again.
