Loki won’t explore main character’s queerness any further

In the latest episode of Loki, the lead character and his alternate dimension doppleganger Sylvie were talking about love, and Sylvie asked Loki if there any “would-be princesses, or perhaps another prince” waiting for him. “A bit of both,” Loki replied.

This confirmed Loki’s bisexuality, something that had been in the comics for a while. Director Kate Herron talked to Entertainment Tonight about the decision, saying that while she felt it was important to do, they don’t have any plans to explore Loki’s bisexuality further — don’t expect him to strike up a relationship with a guy, at least not in the first season. “I would say in our story, this is how we acknowledge it,” Herron said. “But I hope that paves the way for deeper exploration.”

"For me, I was like, I’m telling Loki’s story, it’s a part of who they are and I just want to acknowledge it. It’s canon in the comics and if we can make it canon in the films, that would be amazing."

Will Loki ever be in a relationship onscreen?

Marvel and Disney+ were very supportive of Herron’s plan. “When I came on board, I was like, if there’s a way to do this, it would mean a lot to me and, I’m sure, a lot of people. But it was very welcomed, and I think we’re all very proud of how we did that.”

The question of what comes next is an interesting one. Aside from the occasional glimpse at Marvel characters with their families, there really are no moments in the MCU when significant others share time together. Aside from lots of flirtation and double entendres, it’s hard to picture Loki in a relationship.

Fans hoping to see Loki with a boyfriend or girlfriend anytime soon may be disappointed, but that doesn’t mean that an opportunity for a love story can’t play out in a future season of the show, or even on the big screen.
