Everybody calm down! Amazon Prime Video has just released a teaser for its adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, a towering work of fantasy fiction that has never had a good onscreen version despite kicking off more than 30 years ago. True, Amazon has released little teasers before, mostly micro-clips from the show itself, but this is more official: Amazon’s graphics department has been at it, and we have a release window!
Watch below:
That is a slick-looking logo. The snake references the great serpent, which in The Wheel of Time series represents the cyclical nature of time. Every Aes Sedai sorceress wears a snake ring to signify their commitment to this concept. It’s a big deal in the series, so I’m all for it working its way into the logo.
The Wheel of Time is coming to Amazon Prime Video this year
Perhaps more importantly, Amazon confirmed that its Wheel of Time show is coming in 2021! We don’t know exactly when in 2021, but given how ambitious the series is — we’re talking about a 14-book epic with monsters, magic and lots of far-flung fantasy places to visit — it’ll probably be towards the end, once the special effects people have had a long while to get everything just right.
Next step: trailer town!
