If wishes were fishes, then Lucifer would have a seventh season on Netflix. (That’s how the old saying goes, right?) Fans have been through the figurative wringer when it comes to the show’s is-it or isn’t-it cancelled history, but after Lucifer season 6 airs it will officially mark the end of the line for the beloved show.

Lucifer was picked up by Netflix in 2018 following the show’s cancellation at Fox. The season 3 cliffhanger left many doors open and the showrunners and cast alike wanted to give closure to the fans who followed the story over the years.

The Netflix pickup was meant to last one season, giving the show a fourth and final season, but the show’s success on the streaming service gave it new life.

There will be no Lucifer season 7

When Lucifer season 4 proved to be a massive hit, Netflix gave the show another season of 16 episodes, divided into two halves. Season 5 part one debuted in 2020 and then the pandemic delayed the arrival of season 5 part two, which premiered in May 2021.

Fans were delighted to learn that Netflix, in conjunction with showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, gave the show a sixth and final season. Lucifer season 6 has already been filmed and it should arrive sometime before the end of 2021.

For a show that almost ended after three seasons back in 2018, Lucifer has found great success in its move to Netflix and fans from other shows have used the Lucifer model of shopping cancelled shows to Netflix through a show of support on social media in hopes of a similar story.

In fact, after Manifest was cancelled after three seasons at NBC, fans pushed Netflix to pick the show up given that Manifest was the No. 1 trending show on the streaming service. Unfortunately, Netflix passed on Manifest but fans are hopeful that something can be done to save the show as the showrunner sees hope after the series has remained at the top of Netflix’s charts for weeks.

Though Lucifer will end with season 7, there’s solace to be taken in knowing that the show lived on three seasons past its cancellation date and fans can stream the episodes as much as they want so that Lucifer’s story lives on.
