The first season of The Witcher was a big enough hit that Netflix ordered a six episode prequel series. The WItcher: Blood Origin is set over 1,000 years before the main show, and details the events leading the Conjunction of the Spheres, wherein the worlds of man, elves and monsters converged, leaving the world in the state it is now. We’ll also see the creation of the first Witcher.

The show has been through some ups and downs behind the scenes. Originally, Queen & Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith was going to play Éile, “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess” who leaves her position as the royal bodyguard to a powerful queen to become a wander musician, but she had to leave the production. Meanwhile, Irish actor Laurence O’Fuarain will play Fjall, a warrior who harbors a lot of guilt after a loved one died to save him in battle.

And now, Variety reports that none other than Michelle Yeoh will play Scían, the last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. When she gets the chance to retrieve a stolen sword sacred to her people, she goes on a deadly quest that will change the Continent.

Michelle Yeoh is a big get for The Witcher prequel

Michelle Yeoh has been bringing it for decades. She’s known for her roles in movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonTomorrow Never Dies and Crazy Rich Asians, as well as on TV shows like Star Trek: Discovery. And she has a lot of stuff coming up, with roles in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsGunpowder Milkshake alongside Game of Thrones vet Lena Headey, and multiple sequels to Avatar.

With an action background, Yeoh should be right at home as a sword-wielding warrior. There’s no release date for The Witcher: Blood Origin as of yet, but the second season of the original show is returning this year.
