The Boys skewers Fox News, CNN, My Pillow and more with Vought News Network

The Boys season 3 is still a ways out, but showrunner Eric Kripke and his team are filling in some blanks with the Vought News Network, a new fake news show hosted by a Tucker Carlson-esque host named Cameron Coleman, who will also appear on the show.

“Since the very start of The Boys, we’ve seen Vought’s propaganda arm — I mean, news channel — VNN,” Kripke explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We’ll be digging deeper into those fair and balanced patriots next season, so as a teaser, we’re introducing ‘Seven on 7’ with VNN’s biggest star Cameron Coleman. The episodes are in-world canon, serving up brand-new information that bridges the story gap between season 2 and 3. So enjoy the hot takes and catheter commercials, just like your parents do!”

The first episode is out now, and it’s filled with little updates about what’s happened since season 2 as well as the show’s flair for guffaw-inducing satire:

The Boys goes after Fox News and Tucker Carlson

This mostly seems to be a parody of Fox News, what with the jingoistic host kissing up to fascists like Homelander and shaking his head in faux exhaustion at cabinet members daring to try and keep corporate influence out of government. We’ve also got shots fired at the Marvel Cinematic Universe, My Pillow CEO/unstable human being Mike Lindell, and more.

And between all the gags, we get plot updates: Homelander is sullen and lonely since his Nazi girlfriend Stormfront was burned to a crisp at the end of season 2; Vought has made up a cover story to explain Blind Spot’s disappearance after Homelander maimed the kid; and Hughie is now a senior analyst working for Congresswoman Victoria Neuman. No comment on Neuman being a Supe who’s going around exploding people’s heads. More on that at 11.

All of his seems very much in keeping with The Boys and its gleeful approach to satire and parody. New episodes of Cameron Coleman’s show will go up on the 7th of every month.
