Watch Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) make his MCU debut…kind of

facebooktwitterreddit

Leave it to Ryan Reynolds to introduce himself into the MCU! Well, kind of. In a promotional feature for his upcoming movie Free Guy, Reynolds, as Deadpool, films a reaction video to the trailer with rock creature Korg, who appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. He’s played by Taika Waititi, who also stars in Free Guy. The result is pure comedy gold.

Deadpool begins the reaction video by asking Korg about getting into the MCU, which inspires Korg to wax poetic about hopes and dreams. Deadpool admits that Korg wasn’t his first choice for a guest reactor, but all of the big names were busy at Disney+. Their commentary is arguably more entertaining than the trailer itself.

Ryan Reynolds and Korg from Thor: Ragnarok react to Free Guy

Reynolds is known for his acerbic wit, in or out of the Deadpool costume. But when he dons the black and red onesie his personality goes into overdrive. The four-minute clip is funny and witty and charming, leaving fans wanting a Deadpool movie in the MCU as soon as possible.

The promo clip also highlights how Reynolds is (still) unafraid to poke the sleeping bear that is Disney. As owners of Marvel Studios and the now-defunct 20th Century Fox studio that brought Deadpool to life, Reynolds’ future as Deadpool lies with Disney and Marvel.

Or maybe Disney loves the attention Reynolds attracts when he gets into character. Though Reynolds and Waititi are promoting Free Guy, they’re also indirectly promoting Ragnarok and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as Deadpool’s eventual (official) entrance to the MCU.

Reynolds knows how to stir the pot just enough to raise eyebrows and draw laughs. For his sake, let’s hope Free Guy is actually funny and he didn’t peak with the promo video…because that promo video is maximum levels of awesome.

Free Guy releases in theaters on August 13.
