Fear the Walking Dead showrunner teases Madison’s return: “We’ll see”
By Ashley Hurst
Fear the Walking Dead started out following a family as they struggle to stay together and survive the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse in Los Angeles. Since then, we saw fan favorites Nick (Frank Dillane) and Madison (Kim Dickens) meet their demise. Madison’s husband Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) and his son Chris (Lorenzo Henrie) were also killed off. Heading into season 7, only Alicia Clark remains. But according to co-showrunner Ian Goldberg, there’s a chance we may see Madison again.
Madison’s “death” in the season 4 episode “No One’s Gone,” continues to inspire countless fan theories, each trying to prove she’s somehow alive and well. She met her end after getting stuck in a stadium fire while surrounded by walkers. But we never actually see her die, and if fans don’t see something happen, many will doubt it did.
Throughout season 6 there were rumors Madison would reunite with her daughter, but it never came to be. Now, all eyes are on season 7.
How could Madison come back on Fear the Walking Dead?
“Madison has never not been a presence on this show, even after her exit in the middle of Season 4 after her sacrifice for her family,” Goldberg said during a TWDUniverse Twitch live stream. “Her legacy has continued to live on, and we saw that this season through Alicia, and that will certainly continue as well.”
"What we have planned beyond that, we’ll see. That’s pretty much as much as I can really say about it."
Co-showrunner Andrew Chambliss has also said some similarly vague things in the past. “I don’t think it closes doors or anything,” he told Insider. “I think we’ll have to wait and see which way the story goes.“
There are plenty of ways we could see Madison return to the franchise, perhaps even somewhere other than on Fear the Walking Dead. We’ve already seen characters crossover from The Walking Dead to the spinoff, so it’s not unrealistic to believe Madison could reverse it and appear in The Walking Dead season 11. She could also be in the upcoming Rick Grimes movies or the upcoming anthology show Tales of The Walking Dead.
If Madison does someday make a comeback, fans will no doubt be elated. There are plenty of ways to write her back in. I do hope we learn how he managed to survive the seemingly devastating stadium fire, though.
